What To Expect

It's Just Blood

Period blood isn't like a cut. It can be red, brown, or pink, and might be a little clumpy. This is all normal! You'll only lose a few tablespoons over several days.

Mild Cramps

You might feel a dull ache in your lower belly. This is your uterus working. A warm heating pad or a gentle walk can help a lot.

The Flow

Your first few periods might be super light and irregular. It can take your body a year or two to find a regular rhythm. That's okay!

How to Use a Pad

Unwrap It

Take the pad out of its wrapper. The wrapper can be used to dispose of your old pad later.

Stick It On

Peel off the long paper strip on the back and press the sticky side firmly onto the inside of your underwear.

Fold the Wings

If your pad has "wings," peel the paper off them and fold them around the outside of your underwear to hold it in place.

Change It

Change your pad every 4-6 hours, or when it feels wet, to stay fresh and prevent leaks.

Your First Period Kit

Keep a small, discreet pouch in your school bag with these essentials, so you're always prepared!

  • 2-3 pads or tampons
  • A spare pair of underwear
  • A small pack of wet wipes
  • A small pain reliever (if parents approve)
  • A little treat, like a piece of chocolate!
